Support Brokers

Who Support Brokers Support

Support brokers walk alongside Idahoans with developmental disabilities and their families, helping them direct their own services and build lives on their own terms.

Who support brokers serve

In Idaho, support brokers are chosen and employed by the people they serve. They work within the Medicaid Developmental Disabilities program for people who choose to self-direct their supports.

Adults who self-direct

Adults with developmental disabilities who choose the self-direction option. They decide who supports them, when, and how, with a broker helping them plan and manage it all.

Children & their families

Parents of children with developmental disabilities who choose Family Directed Services. Brokers help families build a plan and manage their child’s budget and supports.

Young adults in transition

Youth moving from children’s services into adult services. Brokers help make that transition smooth, so supports continue without a gap.

What support brokers help with

Every broker relationship is different, but most of the work falls into a few areas.

Person-centered planning

Facilitating planning meetings led by the person, with the people who matter most to them.

Support & spending plans

Writing the plan and budget that turn goals into real, funded supports, including backup plans.

Budget monitoring

Keeping an eye on spending so supports stay on track throughout the plan year.

Hiring & managing supports

Helping recruit, hire, and work alongside community support workers.

Health & safety

Helping participants and families meet their responsibilities and stay safe.

Community connections

Finding resources and building circles of support in the community.
